“Pencil. I do almost everything in pencil, it’s the perfect tool. It can be blended, erased, used to make dark marks, or light marks. It can be chiseled into a wedge to be more spontaneous. You can get water soluble pencils, so they blend like water colour. The only drawback is that it can make you a bit uptight. For that reason sometimes I go for ink – jet black India or sumi-e.”
