Q&A with MARGARET GISSING

WHAT art-making tool can't you live without?

“My sketchbook! As a multi-disciplinary artist, I’ve experimented with a wide range of mediums, and my sketchbook has acted as a constant foundation to whatever I am working with at the time. I try to keep one on me at all times... you never know when inspiration may strike!”

WHAT is the best & worst thing about a blind collaboration?

“As my first time in a blind collaborative project, I’m not sure what exactly to expect, except the excitement I feel right now! On one hand, not knowing whom I’m collaborating with removes the ability to compare my work with others, which does make lots of room to let go and really focus in on the piece itself, trusting that no matter what, it will become part of a wonderous whole.”

WHAT does the word "beastly" bring to your mind?

“The wild things! Creatures tethered to the earth and the heart of nature in physical and energetic ways. I think of archetypal symbols with glowing eyes. Creatures that sing loudly, or hum on moonless nights. Whether big or small, made of all manner of branches, antlers, fur, teeth, fins, wings, spider web, or gauze – the beastly things I think of are always wildly themselves.”
